During the appointment you remain clothed while seated on a chair that delivers electromagnetic stimulation around the pelvic floor. This approach produces repeated muscle activation without an internal exercise device.
The pelvic floor helps support pelvic organs and bladder control. Urinary symptoms can have different causes, so assessment informs the care plan. Pelvic floor exercises, bladder training and chair-based stimulation are distinct approaches; your plan reflects the problem being addressed.
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and connective tissues that supports the pelvic organs and contributes to bladder and bowel control. These muscles need strength, coordination and the ability to relax appropriately.
Urinary leakage and pelvic discomfort can have different causes. Assessment helps distinguish concerns related to muscle weakness from problems involving coordination, excessive tension or another medical condition.
The treatment chair applies an electromagnetic field while you remain seated and clothed. Magnetic stimulation can activate nerves and produce repeated contractions in the pelvic-floor region without an internal exercise device.
This approach provides externally induced muscle activity. Pelvic-floor exercise and physical therapy also address voluntary control, relaxation, breathing and movement habits, and can form part of an individualized care plan.
Your visit reviews bladder symptoms, previous treatment, relevant surgery and everyday goals. Comfortable seated positioning is established before stimulation begins, with the sensation and intensity monitored during the session.
Follow-up can consider changes in leakage, urgency and daily activities, as well as your ability to manage symptoms. These outcomes guide the review of your treatment plan.

Published studies of EMSELLA describe potential improvement in urinary symptoms for selected women. A clinician should assess the type of symptoms and discuss pelvic-floor exercise, device treatment and other appropriate options.
2019 · Prospective single-arm study
Women treated with the studied EMSELLA device reported improvements in urinary symptoms and quality of life. Without a sham or untreated comparison, the study cannot isolate the device effect or establish an individual success rate.
2021 · Comparative clinical study
The study reported improved pelvic-floor and continence measures after HIFEM, with better short-term results than the electrical-stimulation comparison. The population was selected and the report concerns post-treatment outcomes; it was not a sham-controlled test of this clinic.
2024 · Retrospective clinical study
Women with stress or mixed urinary incontinence reported improved symptom and quality-of-life measures after EMSELLA sessions. This small retrospective study cannot establish causation or a lasting effect. Confirm the actual device and suitability with the provider.
Yes. The service is delivered while seated and clothed on the treatment chair.
